Tonight is 3,000 Words, a photography showcase, silent auction and fundraiser for High Fives Foundation. If you're in the Tahoe area, you should come by and support the cause. The Silver Boombox Thief will be spinning later on, so there will be plenty of opportunity to get your groove on as well.
While I'm not sure this has the intricacy and sheer brilliance of their last view videos (which were web phenomenons), this is still super fun and I love how these guys are really taking advantage of new media and making their mark by doing their own thing, not following the traditional band formula.
I just unwrapped the graphics for a pair of skis from Slant Skis' 2011 line, the 5822. A boutique ski company located right here in Truckee, a lot of inspiration for the ski came from local sources, including the 5822 name, which is the elevation (in feet) of the factory. There are also some other fun details including a topographic map of some of the world-renowned ski areas around here as well as some of the lesser-known back country spots. They look really fun and kind of make me want to trade in my board for a few laps on these guys next season...
I just wrapped up a new poster campaign for High Fives Foundation's 3,000 Words event. The event is a silent auction and photography showcase for three charities, High Fives, Biking for a Better World and the Shane McConkey Foundation. Carrying the number theme of the number three throughout, I created a series of three posters designed to work together to promote the event. Sorry for the low-quality snapshot, I'll be posting some nicer shots to my portfolio soon.
If you're in the Tahoe area on June 26, it will definitely be worth checking out.
After a little vacation last week, I've been pretty hectic with a variety of projects and trying to line up some cool things over the summer. I've also been thinking quite a bit about a post I made in the fall where, although I didn't issue an outright challenge to Old Man Winter, I was certainly overconfident in my preparedness for the season. Well, I'm not afraid to admit when I've been bested, especially by such a mighty opponent. Rolling into Memorial Day Weekend, our woodpile is long gone, and it still hasn't stopped snowing. Not just a freak storm one day, but consecutive weeks of cold, clouds and snow accumulation. So much for sunny California, this is life in the mountains.
I just got back from a nice trip to Yosemite where I was able to completely get away for a few days, no phone, no email, no work... Great stuff. I'm home for a day before heading back down to SF, and I was happy to see that my new business cards had arrived while I was away. While my old business cards have gotten a lot of love, it was time for something new... The Mandate Press did an excellent job with these, a two-color, square letterpress card designed to be minimal and clean but maintain a touch of playfulness.
As of today we are exactly six weeks away from the summer solstice and this was the scene outside of the office today... I think I'm ready for a more temperate climate.
A new spot for Lakai from movie genius Spike Jonze. Just silly and fun, like skateboarding should be.
I was extra happy today to see this box on my doorstep when I got home... The hand-numbered, incredibly beautiful packaging for the Eames Century Modern font collection from House Industries. Apparently I was the 17th person out of the gate to order it. Is this excessive packaging for a font? Maybe. But how many things do you buy where you want to hang the box on the wall? I know this is going on mine. I also love the newsprint that it was wrapped in... You can absolutely feel the love that went into this when you open it. Beautiful job guys.
